Pro Workshops Details - Overview and Topics
The workshops are all held online in real-time. You can also download recorded sessions of past workshops. You don't need anything more than an Internet connection and phone to participate.
You will be learning and discussing with Pro Players over web-based webinar software (no download necessary).
We keep the workshop size small (15 max) so that everyone will have a chance to enter in depth discussion and get a high value experience. All participants will have a chance to get their questions answered by the Pro Instructor and will also receive an audio/video recording of the workshop session as a digital download.

Testing Workshop
LSV takes a look at the best strategies for testing a new deck. Whether you need to find the "best deck" or test your match ups with a rogue deck, here's your chance to test-smart and maximize your preparation. Use his tips to dramatically reduce the time needed for pre-tournament preparation. Leverage the insights he used to win Pro Tour Berlin, soar through Worlds and numerous GPs.

Evaluate cards relative to the current Meta Game and stay at the forefront of Magic's constantly changing environment.
Drafting with LSV
Follow LSV pick by pick, as he evaluates and builds the best deck from his draft. Ask questions about why he included one pick over another. Discuss possible deck builds—what are the best 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd cards to include? What will be a good SB option and when will it be needed? Make sure your land base is correct and see how Luis Scott-Vargas sets himself up for win after win. Increase your chances of "going infinite" on MTGO by taking LSV's advice to the next level.

General MtG in-Game Tips

This class is great for players struggling with general in-game issues or looking for tips pro's use to avoid play mistakes. Whether you're a new player or a seasoned player this is an excellent synopsis of in-game pointers you can put to work immediately. As Magic players ourselves, we know from personal experience that sometimes there are small tweaks that can make a huge impact on your game. Maybe you're missing something small but that "something" is having a huge impact on your results. It may simply be how you evaluate board conditions. Maybe you're attacking at the wrong time or not blocking when you should be. This is your chance to dig deep into the game while surveying some of the best tips that our Pro players can impart.
The 90 minute session will provide ample time for you to ask general questions that have been nagging you for some time.
Deck Building 101a
In the 1st part of this two-part workshop, players will discuss the various deck themes dominating the current meta game. Ben Lundquist will be fresh off the back-to-back Nationals-GP Boston circuit with fresh insight to share with players.
Together with the pro, workshop participants will examine where to start with building a deck. This is the opportunity to discuss various sideboard options and how to optimize a mana base--and know it's rock solid.
Workshop participants will build a Standard "tier-one" deck with the pro and ride backseat as he pilots the newly built deck against MTGO players. Play by play, you'll have real-time feedback from Ben Lundquist on why he's playing one card over another.
This workshop also includes time for Q&A so bring your toughest deck building questions for Ben to answer!
Understanding and Gauging the Meta
This workshop is intended to take a very deep examination of the current Metagame with a focus on answering the biggest dilemma a player faces pre-tournament: "What deck should I play?" Ben Lundquist will address this question by leveraging his years of Pro Tour play.
Though not the focus of this workshop (see Deck Building 101b), this workshop will also briefly examine the question of "Going rogue" with particular focus on the context of the Metagame. Here's your chance to learn the real-life, hard-won experience of a pro player evaluating the Metagame day after day. Ben Lundquist has a long trackrecord of developing decks to bend a metagame to his advantage, so here's your chance to gain his insight. You'll be able to put his tips to immediate application as you evaluate your localized Metagame post-workshop.
Because this workshop will also cover pre-tournament preparation, you'll be able to walk into your next tournament confident you're properly prepared. This is an excellent workshop for all competitive Magic players.
Workshop includes time for Q&A.
Deck Building 101b
This is the second-part of the Deck Building workshops.
In this workshop, you'll have the opportunity to further examine the process for developing a deck: what are the steps for tuning an Aggro deck? How does that differ from a Combo deck? What's needed to break-down the mid-range strategy?
This workshop will also include a deeper analysis of "going rogue" vs "known decks." Our pro player instructors will also take the time to discuss techniques for evaluating cards' "abuse potential." This information is essential to understanding the difference between a card's immediate viability vs "potential viability."
Because you'll be taking an in-depth analysis of the steps necessary for building a deck, whether Aggro or Control, you'll have the knowledge you need to make informed decisions going into your next tournament, whether a local FNM, PTQ or GP.
This session also includes deck construction with real-time feedback from the pro player explaining his rational for each choice. You'll then have the opportunity to ask follow up questions.

About Magic: the Gathering
Magic the Gathering (MTG) is the brain child of Richard Garfield who through Wizards of the Coast published the first set of Magic cards in 1993. That set was titled Alpha, followed shortly by Beta and then Unlimited. The most recently printed set is titled Zendikar and in 2010 Worldwake and Rise of the Eldarzi are slated for print. Magic to this day is a favorite pass-time for people of all ages, played worldwide. There is even a Pro Tour with four large events, aptly called "Magic: the Gathering Pro Tour," as well as a series of Grand Prix. The events are distributed through out the world. In 2009 alone, Magic the Gathering had Pro Tour and Grand Prix stops in Kyoto Japan, Honolulu USA, Rome Italy, Sao Palo Brazil and many, many more! 2010 brings Magic players just as exciting a year, with events from Pro Tour San Diego to Grand Prix Oakland--the backyard of world-reknowned player Luis Scott-Vargas, or LSV for short--to Grand Prix Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia). Here's the full 2010 Grand Prix Schedule. Some of the Pro Players from Magic's Pro Tours include Ben Lundquist, Luis Scott-Vargas (LSV), Gerry Thompson, Patrick Chapin, John Finkle, and Shuhei Nakamura.
The Most Popular CCG of All
MTG cards are not just for playing a game. Magic: the Gathering is technically called a collectible card game--or CCG or TCG (Trading Card Game). This means Magic cards carry individual values, ranging from a few cents a piece to in some cases, over $1000 each. There is one group of cards with especially high value--much of this is the result of Wizards of the Coast promising to never reprint the cards; this means they're extremely scarce. These cards are called the "Power 9." They are Black Lotus, Mox Pearl, Mox Sapphire, Mox Jet, Mox Ruby, Mox Emerald, Ancestral Recall, Time Walk and Timetwister. In addition to being very rare, the Power 9 each possess very powerful effects within the Magic game. These are not the only powerful and valuable cards. Cards from Arabian Nights, the first expansion set to the "Core Set" (Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited), are also especially valuable due to their limited print runs.
Magic the Gathering Accessories
Players very frequently carry their cards in binders – called "Trade binders" by mtg players. Magic players often keep very valuable cards in their tradebinders to trade cards with other players, in hopes of filling in their collections. Because Wizards of the Coast (WotC) has published approximately 10,000 individual cards, trading is a very frequent occurance, seen at all Magic the Gathering events, whether that be upcoming Pro Tour San Juan or a local Friday Night Magic (FNM). A list of notable and recent cards include Tarmogoyf (Future Sight), Bitterblossom (Lorwyn), Cryptic Command (Lorwyn), Baneslayer Angel (Magic 2010 or M10), and new 'enmey fetchlands' such as Arid Mesa, Marsh Flats, Misty Rainforest, Scalding Tarn and Verdant Catacombs (Zendikar).
Due to the high value of Magic the Gathering cards, many players carry their cards in cardboard boxes, plastic boxes (often called deck boxes), while also putting each individual card in a plastic sleeve. Here's a full list of accessories for Magic the Gathering players: Deck Boxes, Sleeves, Playmats, Dice, Counters, Tradebinder, and scorecards. In 2009, Power 9 Pro released the Dragon's Egg, a bag designed specifically to keep Magic cards safe, making it the newest addition to a number of Magic related accessories. Power 9 Pro also released the N-Dexers, a patent-pending product for indexing boxes of cards (by type, color, rarity, etc.) in all industry standard storage boxes.
